The CompanY
The Philippines' Premiere Vocal Group!
Wow, I couldn't believe my eyes -- and ears-- when I got the very rare chance of seeing this resplendent vocal group I have been adoring for more than a decade now! I witnessed their quite short but very spectacular performance at the event center of SM City Cagayan de Oro, Sunday, June 03, as they promote their newest album Destination: Bossa.
Out of seredipity, I learned that The Company was holding a promotional show for their latest album as I came out of the mall's rest room, which is located a few paces away from the show's venue. And since I didn't have any other engagement coming up that afternoon, I counted myself in for the free show! I waited at the event center for almost an hour before The Company eventually came up on stage and did their thing.
Though I can't exactly remember their entire playlist, I'll name a few of the songs that took the wit out of my musical mind.
1. Tulad Mo. A Tagalog rendition of Sergio Mendes's "Like A Lover", transcribed by Cecile Bautista. Sweet Plantado gave an awesome performance that rendered the Cagay-anon audience speechless. Personally, I think the group did an applausible performance in covering a "holy" masterpiece from the Brazilian Maestro, Sergio Mendes.
2. Harana. A Parokya ni Edgar original. Performed by Jay Marquez.
3. La Isla Bonita. A Madonna big hit in the 80's. Another performance from Sweet.
4. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic. An 80's chart topper From The Police.
5. Your Smiling Face. A James Taylor hit.
6. Muntik na Kitang Minahal. The Company's original track back in the 90's, and yeah, it's another hit from group itself.
7. Goodbye Sadness (Tristeza). The Epitome of Brazilian Music. Once performed by Astrud Gilberto, the Bossa-Nova legend from Brazil.
...amongst others.
(I think I need to take a glass of Enervon Prime to get my memory back in prime shape! Whew!)
The members of The CompanY are very much remarkably unique from one another. But they form an incredibly harmonious vocal group. I first heard of them when I was in third year high school. A very close friend introduced me to the song "Special Memory", in 1994. The song captured my heart as it talked about friendship and time passing by. I am a nostalgic person myself... aaawww...
Like I mentioned earlier, the show was quite short. Actually, it ran for about an hour. Which is quite long for a free show. But the group's entire performance was all fun and exciting, plus their vocal acrobats were all damn good, one can easily forget about his time piece!
I just hope, someday, The Company will perform in concert here in Cagayan de Oro. I would surely grab a front-row ticket (braggart!).
