Maundy Thursday

In the Christian liturgical calendar, Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday is the feast or holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. It is the fifth day of Holy Week, and is preceded by Holy Wednesday and followed by Good Friday.
On this day four events are commemorated: the washing of the Disciples' feet by Jesus Christ, the institution of the Mystery of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper, the agony of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, the betrayal of Christ by Judas Iscariot.
The morning celebration of these events marks the beginning of what is called the Easter Triduum or Sacred Triduum. The Latin word triduum means a three-day period, and the triduum in question is that of the three days from the death to the resurrection of Jesus. It should be noted that for Jesus and his followers a day ended, and a new day began, at sunset, not at midnight, as it still does today in the modern Jewish calendar.[1] The Last Supper was held at what present-day Western civilization considers to be the evening of Holy Thursday but what was then considered to be the first hours of Friday. Its annual commemoration thus begins the three-day period or triduum of Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, days of special devotion that celebrate as a single action the death and resurrection of Christ, the central events of Christianity. In the Christian liturgical calendar, Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday is the feast or holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. "Maundy Thursday" is the name for this day in England. It is therefore the usual name also in English-speaking Protestant Churches that originated in that country and even in some that originated in Scotland, although the Scottish Book of Common Prayer uses the name "Holy Thursday".[2] Other English-speaking Protestant Churches, such as the Lutheran, use both "Maundy Thursday" and "Holy Thursday".[3] Among Roman Catholics, except in England, the usual English name for the day is "Holy Thursday", in line with the name used in major Romance Languages.[citation needed]
The word Maundy is derived through Middle English, and Old French mandé, from the Latin mandatum, the first word of the phrase "Mandatum novum do vobis ut diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos" ("A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you"), the statement by Jesus in the Gospel of John (13:34) by which Jesus explained to the Apostles the significance of his action of washing their feet. The phrase is used as the antiphon sung during the "Mandatum" ceremony of the washing of the feet, which may be held during Mass or at another time as a separate event, during which a priest or bishop (representing Christ) ceremonially washes the feet of others, typically 12 persons chosen as a cross-section of the community.

The Company

The CompanY

The Philippines' Premiere Vocal Group!

Wow, I couldn't believe my eyes -- and ears-- when I got the very rare chance of seeing this resplendent vocal group I have been adoring for more than a decade now! I witnessed their quite short but very spectacular performance at the event center of SM City Cagayan de Oro, Sunday, June 03, as they promote their newest album Destination: Bossa.

Out of seredipity, I learned that The Company was holding a promotional show for their latest album as I came out of the mall's rest room, which is located a few paces away from the show's venue. And since I didn't have any other engagement coming up that afternoon, I counted myself in for the free show! I waited at the event center for almost an hour before The Company eventually came up on stage and did their thing.

Though I can't exactly remember their entire playlist, I'll name a few of the songs that took the wit out of my musical mind.

1. Tulad Mo. A Tagalog rendition of Sergio Mendes's "Like A Lover", transcribed by Cecile Bautista. Sweet Plantado gave an awesome performance that rendered the Cagay-anon audience speechless. Personally, I think the group did an applausible performance in covering a "holy" masterpiece from the Brazilian Maestro, Sergio Mendes.

2. Harana. A Parokya ni Edgar original. Performed by Jay Marquez.

3. La Isla Bonita. A Madonna big hit in the 80's. Another performance from Sweet.

4. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic. An 80's chart topper From The Police.

5. Your Smiling Face. A James Taylor hit.

6. Muntik na Kitang Minahal. The Company's original track back in the 90's, and yeah, it's another hit from group itself.

7. Goodbye Sadness (Tristeza). The Epitome of Brazilian Music. Once performed by Astrud Gilberto, the Bossa-Nova legend from Brazil.

...amongst others.

(I think I need to take a glass of Enervon Prime to get my memory back in prime shape! Whew!)

The members of The CompanY are very much remarkably unique from one another. But they form an incredibly harmonious vocal group. I first heard of them when I was in third year high school. A very close friend introduced me to the song "Special Memory", in 1994. The song captured my heart as it talked about friendship and time passing by. I am a nostalgic person myself... aaawww...

Like I mentioned earlier, the show was quite short. Actually, it ran for about an hour. Which is quite long for a free show. But the group's entire performance was all fun and exciting, plus their vocal acrobats were all damn good, one can easily forget about his time piece!

I just hope, someday, The Company will perform in concert here in Cagayan de Oro. I would surely grab a front-row ticket (braggart!).

Welcome to Tomcat's Lair

Hello! My name is Vincent Tom and welcome to my first blog.

Some of you might wonder why I called my blog Tomcat's Lair. It simply doesn't have to do with the Tomcat fighter planes or computer software relative to Java. But very well, there was this girl - ehermz! someone special in the past - who called me Tomcat. Incidentally, I'm an avid Tom and Jerry fan (though I hate to point out that Thomas the Cat is really cute yet so comically stupid! LOL!) Later in the days I realized she was absolutely right in calling me by that petname. 'Cause I found out, Thomas the Cat and I have quite similar personalities. Cute (Bwahaha!!!), sneaky, friendly, lazy (like the real cat!), catchy... and well, like Thomas the Cat himself, stupid! :p
I love me. But sometimes I hate me because of the things or event that went through me due to my stupidity. But then it's reason enough to learn and move on from every mistake, and thereon avoiding committing the same mistake. It's all in the thing they call :diskarte.
Tomcat's Lair shows you more interesting things about me, my family and friends. So enjoy!
